Mes parents m\u2019ont toujours encourag\u00e9e \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper ma cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 et \u00e0 avoir une perspective positive m\u00eame si le contexte violent de mon pays le permettait peu. Mes \u00e9tudes universitaires au baccalaur\u00e9at en design de mode (1997-2002 \u2014 Universit\u00e9 Pontificale Bolivarienne) et mon exp\u00e9rience comme designer pour des marques commerciales ont influenc\u00e9 ma cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 et mes recherches exp\u00e9rimentales dans l\u2019univers du textile et du v\u00eatement. L\u2019hybridit\u00e9, l\u2019essence de mes cr\u00e9ations<\/span><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> est enrichie par des connaissances en mati\u00e8res textiles, en teintures v\u00e9g\u00e9tales et par de nombreuses techniques reli\u00e9es aux fibres.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Je travaille l\u2019intimit\u00e9 f\u00e9minine comme \u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u00e9clencheur d\u2019une catharsis face \u00e0 diverses situations v\u00e9cues autant dans mon pays de naissance que dans celui d\u2019accueil. D\u00e9bora Arango, Rebecca Horn, D\u2019bi Young Anitafrika et Claudy Jongstra sont des artistes qui influencent \u00e9norm\u00e9ment mon art.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Partir de Colombie pour venir au Canada a \u00e9t\u00e9 pour moi comme un voyage initiatique. Je pensais simplement qu\u2019une nouvelle vie s\u2019offrait \u00e0 moi, mais jamais qu\u2019une \u00ab\u00a0avalanche\u00a0\u00bb d&rsquo;\u00e9motions m&rsquo;engouffrerait. Qu\u2019elle allait me traverser des pieds \u00e0 la t\u00eate, en passant par les plus lumineuses p\u00e9riph\u00e9ries jusqu\u2019aux plus recul\u00e9es et obscures profondeurs de mon \u00eatre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ma r\u00e9sistance au contexte oppressif dont sont victimes au quotidien les femmes \u00e0 Medellin, dans leur domicile et sur leurs lieux de travail, m\u2019a conduite \u00e0 valoriser la conception du corps et de la f\u00e9minit\u00e9 en tant que sites sacr\u00e9s, et non comme produits commerciaux. Au Canada, un regard r\u00e9trospectif sur ma vie en Colombie m\u2019a permis de voir plus clairement les circonstances dans lesquelles je suis n\u00e9e et les diverses situations auxquelles j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9e\u00a0: la peur engendr\u00e9e par le narcotrafic, la discrimination des femmes r\u00e9ticentes \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard des canons de beaut\u00e9 impos\u00e9s par la publicit\u00e9 et le pays en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, et les dangers qu\u2019elles courent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Devenir citoyenne canadienne ne m\u2019exempte pas de mon identit\u00e9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019immigrante.\u00a0 L\u2019immigration a conduit \u00e0 ma transformation par le r\u00e9veil de ma conscience et ma rencontre avec moi-m\u00eame. Vivre au Canada a favoris\u00e9 la reconnexion avec mon pays malgr\u00e9 la distance, en int\u00e9grant la m\u00e9moire de mon v\u00e9cu \u00e0 ma vie actuelle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Le chemin de l\u2019oignon\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">est un parcours installatif constitu\u00e9 de pelures d\u2019oignons. Du sud au nord, il m\u00e8ne vers une figure ronde faite de couches de laine de mouton. En son centre se trouve une figure vaginale qui elle-m\u00eame se d\u00e9ploie comme des couches d\u2019oignon. Les pelures comme m\u00e9taphore du changement de peau indiquent mon mouvement d\u2019immigration de la Colombie au Canada. La laine en m\u00e8ches d\u00e9signe des couches protectrices face aux difficult\u00e9s \u00e9prouv\u00e9es. Les cheveux, la fourrure et le vagin en feutre composent un autoportrait de mon humanit\u00e9, mon animalit\u00e9 et ma f\u00e9minit\u00e9 : ils font allusion \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9mergence de ma nouvelle conscience de femme immigrante.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Les couches qui s\u2019enl\u00e8vent et prot\u00e8gent traitent d\u2019un paradoxe entre le fait de se rendre vuln\u00e9rable et\/ou celui de se pr\u00e9server. En effet, en allant \u00e0 la rencontre de moi-m\u00eame, j\u2019ai exp\u00e9riment\u00e9 des changements drastiques en tr\u00e8s peu de temps. Ils m\u2019ont expos\u00e9e \u00e0 une certaine fragilit\u00e9.
